It has always been known that Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford were two former
presidents of the United States that were bound by true friendship. Gerald Ford
was the 38th president while Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United
States of America. Both have a lot in common, they both served in the U.S. Navy,
had three sons and a daughter, have a beautiful wife and of course both became
president of the most powerful country in the world.
When Gerald Ford died last December 26, 2006 because of a heart failure, Jimmy
Carter was asked to make a remark on the funeral of his friend, his predecessor
and his brother in Christ. Yes, they are brothers in Christ because both are
real believers of Christian faith and both lived their lives with fear of God.
During Former President Jimmy Carter’s eulogy speech, he talked about his
relationship with Gerald Ford during and after his terms of office in the white
house. Since Jimmy Carter was preceded by President Gerald Ford, he still made
it a point to inform him of what he was doing as President. They are opponents
in title but they are real friends at heart. They both aim for one thing and
that is to be of service to America. They are opponents for the presidency but
they supported each other and not put down the other for ones benefit. That in
itself is worth applauding.
Carter pointed out that as president, Gerald Ford would give him really sound
advices. The former president Gerald Ford would support him irregardless of what
his political party’s opinion was. Gerald Ford has helped him during his
presidency as a good adviser.
Jimmy Carter’s and Gerald Ford’s wives are good friends as well as stated by Mr.
Jimmy Carter during the eulogy. Both women loved each other and have built a
strong friendship in them as well. The Carter’s and the Ford’s have learned to
love each other and the relationship was never shallow.
Jimmy Carter’s eulogy to his good old friend Gerald Ford was heartfelt and
filled with good humor. Here is a man talking about his friend whom he shared
his victories and worries as a president and perhaps shared personal problems
with as well. The eulogy did not sound political at all and that is because both
are friends rather than as political opponents.
